Business Problem

With a new studio set design and updated brand after the 2015 general election the mobile app for Android and iOS needed updating. This twinned with the impending release of the next iOS version the existing app would have fallen over. Sky wanted to both refresh from a design standpoint but also kick start an ongoing user-centric design process to help forge the future iterations of the apps.

Approach

Working within a mixed disciplinary team, we worked to build a process that facilitated that iterative design process, which put the current and targeted users firmly in it's sights.

Solution

I was charged with leading the art direction across both platforms at the beginning of an agile product development road map before designing and prototyping planned new features using the new Design Sprint methodology. Using this methodology we gathered vital research from users and competitors as well as running week long sprints using the research as a base for discussion, ideation and prototyping of existing and new features.Once the MDP (minimum 'delightful' not 'viable') product had been created we were able to hand the process, design and code to a new team in Leeds to kick start the next tranche of work on the app for both mobile and tablet.
